Ohmicron – “Above the Sun”: A Feel-Good Rock-Pop Song About Love & Devotion
There’s something about life that many don’t get, and I will say, a slow start is still a start, no matter what. Yeah, sometimes you need it fast so people can enjoy it, but when it comes to music, I think a slow start is still a good start. Maybe you don’t get it, let’s say you try to write a romantic love song, but it starts out so slow and sleepy that your partner accidentally takes a full nap before you even get to the chorus. But later they woke up to a beautiful rock song that took them by surprise. Now that’s almost the story behind “Above the Sun“, the new single by alt-rock band Ohmicron.
The thing is, the song began as a slow ballad before the band picked up the tempo, added some pop elements to it, then came the alt-rock attitude, but still they weren’t done yet, and then added a quirky folk elements into the track, giving it this lively, uplifting feel that many of you will enjoy as I did. The track serves as the lead single for their upcoming self-titled album which drops October 15, 2026. The idea behind the record is to deliver a joyful, high-energy declaration of pure devotion.
The instrumentations on this track are quite impressive and amazing, it’s got a bright, driving punch that immediately pulls you in with those straight to action attitude. You’ve got lead guitarist Jake Collett using two different guitars during the recording session, layering crisp acoustic strumming underneath sharp electric riffs. Bassist Trevor LaQuet and drummer Raul Donlin comes in with a steady, bouncing rhythm section that gives the song a breezy, open-highway feel. I love the raw and authentic nature of the production, it really strikes a neat balance between radio-friendly pop and garage-band rock.
You know there’s one thing about having beautiful melodies, nice riffs and strings and then the vocals just doesn’t sit right with them. But lead singer Simon Renn did a fantastic job here, the way he carried the melody with clear, energetic vocals that soar effortlessly over the band’s acoustic-electric backing is just as smooth as any slider, not many are able to nail it to such degree of perfection, but I love it!
“Above the Sun” ask one big question probably many of us have been struggling with, and it says, how do you explain to the love of your life just how much they mean to you? I mean a lot of us struggle with this, I don’t know where the fault is, but sometimes no matter how hard you try, it just difficult to express everything you feel. Maybe it’s trust? Well the song answers by comparing them to nature’s most vital elements, featuring standout lines like “Higher than the daylight, warmer than the dawn.” And maybe that’s the answer we all can give, if you tell them they are above the Sun, then definitely they will understand how much they mean to you. It carries a simple, heartwarming message about recognizing the people who bring warmth and light into your everyday world. Let them feel you see them, you hear them and you’ll always be there for them, and thus you appreciate them to the highest degree.
Overall “Above the Sun” is a absolute masterpiece, the production is exquisite, vocals beautiful and doesn’t sway offbeat, rides it smoothly and has enough emotional feel to it to make everyone it’s dedicated or played to understand it. To me it’s a track that feels refreshing, genuine, and full of positive energy. It delivers a feel-good rock sound that instantly lifts your mood and brightens up your drive home.
