Peningo Riders Turn a Viral Trend Into Rock Gold on “Duck That Jeep”

Like I always say, good music knows no boundaries. Cos literally geniuses can create music from anything and one thing is, you’d be shock to find out how good such songs are. See, man I had a lot of questions about the “Jeep Ducking” trend, mostly because I didn’t realize grown adults were leaving rubber ducks on cars, but Peningo Riders have turned it into a legit rock song. And I must say, I’m loving every bit of it. And guess what? It’s their debut single, titled “Duck That Jeep.” You wouldn’t believe it but it’s a massive Southern Rock track that actually makes the whole duck thing sound pretty cool.

The band is based in New York and has a funny origin story. Tell you what? Eddie Pellon went to Russ Davis for guitar lessons, and instead of just learning scales, they ended up starting a band. Just look at that, something beautifully formed and together they have crafted a gold debut. One thing is they take their inspiration from the classics—think Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. So you just know you’re in for a treat, cos you can feel influences from these artists shining through the song.

Now “Duck That Jeep” is built on a gritty Texas shuffle that feels like it’s covered in mud and grease. It has that “top-down” energy that makes you want to hit the highway and probably drive a bit faster than the speed limit. While the song is the unofficial anthem for people who put ducks on Jeeps, you don’t actually need to own a 4×4 to enjoy it. It’s just solid, swampy blues rock. I love the switch between the beats, it brings a refreshing feel to it and makes it fun. Wow, that’s how you make good music.

The crazy part is how fast this is spreading. Even though it’s a very American sound, they are already being heard in 47 different countries. Apparently, people in Brazil are obsessed with it right now. It turns out that a good guitar riff is a universal language, even if you’ve never seen a rubber duck in your life. So the question is, are you gonna duck your jeep? Or a friend’s own? Haha enjoy it man. Cos I know you gonna be nodding as “duck that Jeep” rings in your ear.

Overall I must say “Duck That Jeep” is a masterpiece. I love how it doesn’t rush, and has this feel of people actually doing what they love together. And I like how it brings these little side conversations of people admiring the duck jeep. So to me if you’re looking for something to add to a road trip or summer playlist, this is it. It proves that rock and roll isn’t some dusty relic in a museum; it’s still alive and kicking, even if it’s being fueled by a viral car trend. Grab your sunglasses, turn it up loud, and join the ride.
