The New Citizen Kane Makes Disco Feel Dangerous Again on “Well, Damn! Here You Are”
Haha man, we feasting this month and I must say, well I can’t complain. But hey guys do you remember Psychedelika Pt.1?? I mean that whole meat of an album that the New Citizen Kane served us. Well what can I say? January can be a pretty miserable month, but The New Citizen Kane just dropped an EP that feels like a giant shot of caffeine and glitter. It’s called Well, Damn! Here You Are, and honestly, that’s exactly what I said after hitting the play button. But guess what? Kane Michael Luke is a London artist who spent a decade away from the spotlight before coming back in 2024. He isn’t some corporate-made pop star. He’s a guy who writes and produces his own stuff, and he’s clearly obsessed with making people dance while they deal with their feelings. And that’s one thing he never fails to deliver.
Now before we dive into the album, do you guys remember on Psychedelika Pt.1, there was a track that almost stole the show titled “Well’ Damn! Here You Are”? Yes, now on this album, we are inside Psychedelika Pt.1 and we are branching to a song and explore the world of that song as an album. Ah ah I know you’re excited and didn’t expect that. But here we are!

The title track, Well, Damn! Here You Are, is a total mood. I mean who’s gonna hear that beat drop and not begin to shake their body or nod their heard. It’s about that 3 a.m. phone call from someone you know is bad for you, but you pick up anyway. Knowing very well whatever promises you made, you gonna break them answering that call. In the end what will kill a man should kill a man. I’ve got to say ma favorite line has to be, “You’re goody goody, gosh, but you’re bad bad bad for me.” You know very damn well she’s bad for you but man, what can we do? We just gotta get in the mood and enjoy the moments. It’s got this disco beat that makes you want to move even though the lyrics are kind of a disaster for your mental health.
Moving on, is the next track “Subconscious” (Extended Primordial Radio Mix). You fans have been begging for this version, and it’s finally here. It’s long, it’s trippy, and it feels like a dream that doesn’t want to end. Then he hits us with a cover of Samantha Mumba’s Gotta Tell You. If you grew up in the early 2000s, this will unlock memories you forgot you had. He turns it into a euphoric dance track that’s surprisingly catchy.
“Holding On” is a new disco “stomper.” It’s loud, fast, and exactly what you need when you’re trying to ignore the cold weather outside. I love how Citizen Kane is able to blend emotions to dance music. He allows we the listeners, to get consumed in our own regrets and desires then he allows the music to float us in it atmosphere.
After that is “Story”, which slows things down just enough to let you catch your breath. But do you really wanna catch your breath? When the music is too good, you just want everything to flow, but the magic in here is sometimes you gotta take things slow and experience everything smoothly whilst enjoying every desire. Why are you in a rush? Just slow things down, admire her, hold her hands under the lights and pull her to the center at the dancefloor and show her to the world.
Then we get into the re-works. “Could Have Been” (Synthphonica Radio Mix). This takes a fan favorite and gives it a heavy synthwave vibe. It sounds like the soundtrack to an 80s movie where someone is driving a fast car through a neon city. The EP wraps up with the Well, Damn! Here You Are (Synthphonica Radio Mix), which is a more laid-back, nostalgic version of the opening track. It’s a bit more seductive and great for a late-night drive. This i know is gonna be your new favorite.
Overall “Well’ Damn Here You Are” ain’t your regular album. The New Citizen Kane isn’t trying to follow the usual rules. He’s just being himself, and himself happens to be a guy who loves disco, synths, and honest storytelling. If not listening to boring boring music was part of your new year goals, then this EP is a great place to start. There ain’t no dull moment here, it’s breathtaking, enjoying, pulsating and above all, addictive and whatever you do, you will end up repeating “You’re goody goody, gosh, but you’re bad bad bad for me.”
