Lyndo Jaco – “3”: Three Rock Songs, Three Stories, One Wild Ride
More often people wonder why sports supporters are soo loyal to their team even when they loose every week. But what they don’t know is, we are just waiting for that one magic moment! It’s crazy, we buy the jersey, show up in the freezing rain, yell until our voice goes out, and watch them lose by thirty points anyway, yet we don’t give up. People ask us why we bother putting ourselves through that kinda stress, but we stick around because we’re waiting for that one glorious, winning feeling, that moment of magic, that moment where all the pain, stress goes away and it’s all gloomy, the feeling is unmatched. You see that stubborn, hopeful energy? Yeah it runs right through “3”, the new three-track EP from Australian rocker Lyndo Jaco.
The EP which he recorded from his home studio overlooking the garden in Happy Valley, South Australia, Lyndo handles every single part of the process. He’s a multi-instrumentalist that laid down the guitars, plugged in the bass, whacked the drums, and cuts the vocals to build a raw, vintage rock record that feels warm, clear, and completely genuine. You might wonder what’s Soo much different from other EPs or tracks from similar genre to this. Well “3” comes with a clean, uncluttered setup. You can crank the volume up and your speakers are not gonna blow away, compared to messy home demos or over-compressed modern rock, Lyndo took a more measured approach this time around. He dialed in new guitar and bass amps that give his tone a sharp, distinct bite without crowding the mix.
The guitars carry a gritty, classic southern rock crunch, while the basslines rumble right underneath with steady authority. Then you e got drums that punches through with a solid, no-nonsense beat, giving every track a physical, live-in-the-garage feel. The feeling is more like a guy standing right in front of you with his amp cranked up, playing straight from the heart without any corporate polish getting in the way. I love the fact that each song on this quick three-track EP tackles a completely different story, you get track 1 with sports fandom, whilst track 2 takes us to crime and track 3 giving us a trippy perspective on life.
Nothing beats that adrenaline rush when your team finally brings that glory you’ve been yearning for and that’s what “Feeling” welcomes us with. It kicks off the EP with a steady, driving rock rhythm led by crunchy guitar riffs and a pounding drum beat. The captures the loyalty of supporting a struggling sports team through terrible seasons, chasing that incredible rush when they finally score a win. The feeling is usually different when it happens, but these days we’ve got a lot of glory hunters who can’t even stay loyal anymore, the hint of any rough patch and they looking for the next team to support. What the track is passing out is that, staying loyal, riding out the bad days, and holding out for the good times will always beat any kind of feeling in every aspect of life.
On “It Was For“, things take a darker, storytelling turn on this track with heavy basslines and sharp guitar solos. I love the tempo here, it keeps your feet tapping whilst enjoying the drums. One thing in life is, desperation can make you do things you never in your wildest dreams planned to do. And this song tells the story of a desperate guy who turns into a bungling, clumsy thief just to make a quick buck. And what was it all for? He risked it all for the money. If people can actually keep their loyalty and not be looking for quick wins like in the first track, we wouldn’t be here. It carries a cautionary message about how desperation can push people into ridiculous choices, mixing humor with a warning about where quick fixes actually lead you.
It’s bye bye time to the EP with “Whats Happening“. The EP closes with a slightly weird, mind-bending rocker backed by swirling guitar lines and steady rhythm work. The lyrics look at human life as if the entire world were just a tiny kid’s sandpit, watching people fight over small things. Everybody wants to be at the top, but the sad irony is, we all can’t be at the top. So sometimes take a step back, look at what people are killing for, laugh at the everyday drama, and don’t take life too seriously. I have my perspective of enjoying life at your own pace, no need to rush, build brick by brick so you don’t miss the fun down there when you finally at the top.
It’s safe to say Lyndo Jaco has delivered a solid, highly entertaining mini-album with “3”. It’s fun, very entertaining and it’s a rocker! It’s got honest, warm themes and packed with classic hard rock grit from an artist who clearly loves building great tunes from the ground up. So if you love me some raw, home-cooked indie rock with real storytelling, give this EP a listen and enjoy every track to the fullest!
