VHS PANTY RIOT Unleashes Horror-Fueled Darksynth Banger “You’re Pretty When You Panic”
How do you like your electronic music? Do you prefer your darksynth tracks when they are purely aggressive and fast like a chase scene, or do you like it better when electronic music has a slower, creepy atmosphere? I’ve realized something when it comes to movies, especially some of those old 1980s slasher movies, sometimes I find myself cheering for the villain because the main characters keep making incredibly dumb decisions, so is it only me or do you also experience this?

Well you know exactly what I mean. They always run upstairs instead of out the front door, or they stop to hide in a closet full of chainsaws. If you love that creepy, high-voltage horror vibe and wish you had a soundtrack for a high-speed foot chase through a dark forest, look no further, a brilliant new UK electronic project just dropped a song that to me, might end up on your favorite playlist.
The project goes by the wild name of VHS PANTY RIOT, and ah I know what’s prolly going on in your head regarding the title, but well they just released a killer new lead single with a hilariously creepy title “You’re Pretty When You Panic.” I mean when you watch those movies, you do realize that sometimes, those characters looks incredibly adorable when fear and panic falls on them. Now this track serves as the opening chapter for a five-track slasher story told entirely through heavy electronic instruments, which will unfold completely when the debut EP, titled “KISS KISS CUT CUT,” drops on June 30, 2026 and see I can’t wait for it!
I guess by now you’d be anxiously wanting to know who’s behind VHS PANTY RIOT, like in horror movies, the main characters and even us mostly want to see who’s behind all those throat slashing. Well the man behind this beautiful project is a UK producer named Nathan Wilde. The project is only about four months old, but it is already gaining massive traction online with hundreds of pre-saves, scheduled press coverage, and guaranteed playlist slots. Nathan makes it very clear that his project is 100% human-made music with absolutely zero AI involvement. He takes his main inspiration from retro action films, 80s arcade games, and classic horror soundtracks, mixing those nostalgic flavors with modern electronic rock.
To make sure the track hit as hard as a physical punch, Nathan got the single mastered by Thibault Chaumont at Deviant Lab. If you are a fan of heavy electronic music, you probably recognize Thibault’s name from his work with massive industry heavyweights like Carpenter Brut and HEALTH. The creepy, retro artwork was designed by David Placer at Placer Studios, perfectly matching the aesthetic of the music.
Now come take a seat beside me in the dark and let’s have a small talk about the track, cos this song is a total adrenaline rush. Now on “You’re Pretty When You Panic” when played, you realize how massive of shift it is away from the standard, relaxed synthwave music that you usually listen to during a casual midnight drive. What this one does is that, , it sits firmly on the darkest, heaviest side of the darksynth genre and I love it. The moment the beat drops, it hits you with aggressive, heavily distorted synthesizers and violent, driving drums, like yeahhh!
Let the games begin, then you realize how it has this rock and metal sense of impact and emotion, creating an overwhelming feeling of pure horror-film tension. It feels less like a pleasant stroll and much more like a frantic chase scene where a masked killer is breathing right down your neck. The panting, the consuming atmosphere, the distortion, the disbelief, all captured and happening to you! It’s a great experience of a track, you don’t get them this good these days, but I must admit this one is a furnace!
I don’t need to tell you, but the message behind the track is all about the psychological rush of fear, tension, and survival. I love how it plays around with that dark, slightly playful slasher-movie identity where panic completely takes over your senses, when you reasoning becomes like that of those main characters, your judgement are clouded and you begin to act according to it. I love how the music twists and turns with a frantic energy, perfectly mimicking a racing heartbeat and the sudden burst of adrenaline you get when you realize you are in serious trouble. It is tense, direct, and completely unapologetic about its heavy rock energy.
To me Nathan has done a fantastic job of transitioning his sound from simple retro nostalgia into a much meaner, more aggressive electronic beast. So by supporting this track right now, you are jumping onto a massive campaign right at the starting line, with two more singles and a full EP rollout coming down the pipeline later this month.
So if you tired of all those slow, intimate, serene electronic music, and want something that sounds like an arcade machine caught on fire inside a haunted house, you need to go stream this single with the lights turned off and experience everything in full throttle!
